The Solidarity Center is helping workers everywhere build stronger unions, stand up for their rights, overcome repression, and make their world a better place to live.

Worker & Human Rights

Respect for the clearly enshrined international legal rights afforded to all workers is at the foundation of democratic, economic, and social development.  The Solidarity Center promotes the use of international human rights treaty instruments; advocating for the human right to decent work, and the elimination of child labor.

Organizing & Bargaining

Unions are a fundamental component of a free and democratic society, and freedom of association—workers’ right to form and join unions and pursue their interests collectively—is the foundation for all other worker rights. The Solidarity Center trains union organizers, shares information with union activists, and provides support for struggling unions all over the world.  In cooperation with union partners, we develop comprehensive workers education programs that meet the challenges of today's global economy.

Global Economy
The global economy is rewarding a few at the expense of many. The Solidarity Center is fighting to incorporate worker rights into world trade and investment agreements, to hold governments and international financial institutions accountable for the hardships their policies often create for workers, and to bring fair rules and values to the global economy.

Gender & Equality

The global economy depends on women workers around the world. Yet although women account for half the global workforce, they comprise almost three-fourths of the world's poor. Millions of women worldwide work in low-wage, informal, and insecure jobs, such as domestic service.  The Solidarity Center helps women workers and trade unionists shape their workplace and their community.

Safety & Health
Workers around the world in every industry face serious risks. Every year, more than 250 million workers suffer from work-related accidents, including injury and death. The Solidarity Center is helping unions raise awareness and lead the fight for job safety protections that improve the lives of workers worldwide. As part of this effort, the Solidarity Center is at the forefront in partnering with unions, businesses, and governments to develop and lead worker- and workplace-focused HIV/AIDS programs.

Migration & Human Trafficking
The link between labor migration and human trafficking is all too clear. The Solidarity Center's long-standing partnerships with workers, unions, governments, and civil society organizations uniquely position us to create community- and workplace-based counter-trafficking strategies that emphasize prevention, prosecution, and protection.
